Datos rápidos: La mitad del parque se sumerge en el húmedo bosque valdiviano, y la otra mitad se abre a las dunas pulidas por el viento junto al océano. Algunos árboles de alerce viven aquí desde hace más de 3600 años, por lo que son más antiguos que muchas ciudades europeas.
Destacados: Las dunas de Cucao, amontonadas por el viento en medio del bosque lluvioso, parecen un capricho de la naturaleza: en un lado raíces abrazadas por musgo, en el otro un círculo interminable de arena. En la maleza acecha el pudú, el ciervo más pequeño del mundo, cuyo individuo adulto pesa menos de diez kilogramos.
