Take the overnight sleeper train from Sapa arriving around 5-6 AM at Hanoi Railway Station (120 Le Duan Street). Drop your bag at your hostel in the Old Quarter before heading out.
Walk around the lake, cross the iconic red Huc Bridge to visit Ngoc Son Temple on the island (entrance fee 30,000 VND). Best photo spot is from the north shore looking south at sunrise or late afternoon.
Head to Hang Trong Street or Nha Tho Street just west of the lake for small cafes. Order ca phe trung (egg coffee) or ca phe sua da (iced coffee with condensed milk) for about 15,000 VND.
Wander through the 36 streets named after historic guilds like Hang Bac (Silver Street) and Hang Gai (Silk Street). Walk south toward Hoan Kiem Lake which lights up beautifully, and browse the night market on Hang Dao Street (weekends only).
