Korte feiten: Het kasteel werd gebouwd in de jaren 1350 en diende als bolwerk van het Grootvorstendom Litouwen tegen de Duitse Orde. Tegenwoordig herbergt het een museum met meer dan 2.000 objecten, van middeleeuwse wapens tot historische meubelen.
Hoogtepunten: Het interieur van het kasteel is recentelijk gerestaureerd met frisse, levendige muurschilderingen die taferelen uit het middeleeuwse hof van de Litouwse hertogen uitbeelden. De troonzaal is een klein juweel met gouden decoraties en houtsnijwerk dat je rechtstreeks naar de 14e eeuw transporteert.
