Rychlá fakta: Tři apsidy a masivní centrální kopule byly vytesány přímo do měkkého tufu a vytvořily kostel, který působí spíše jako jeskynní katedrála. Fresky zde pokrývají dvě odlišná období, s geometrickými vzory z obrazoboreckého období vedle živých pozdějších vyobrazení svatých.
Zajímavosti: Obrovská freska Krista Pantokratora dohlíží na hlavní apsidu, jeho intenzivní pohled sleduje návštěvníky přes loď. Kopule kostela o průměru 10 metrů vytváří akustický efekt, kdy je i šepot u oltáře slyšet od vchodu.

- Wear closed-toe shoes with grip, as the stone floor is worn smooth and can be slippery near the altar area.
- Bring a small flashlight to see the upper fresco details, especially the ceiling paintings that are shadowed even midday.
- Visit the church first before exploring the cave houses across the street when crowds are thinner around 9 AM.
- The stone bench along the left wall was original seating for worshippers, sit there to appreciate the dome's scale.
