Schnelle Fakten: Der Legende nach wurden drei Aborigine-Schwestern von einem Zauberer in Stein verwandelt, um sie zu beschützen. Die Sandsteinfelsen ragen über 900 Meter in die Höhe und verändern im Laufe des Tages ihre Farbe, je nachdem wie das Sonnenlicht auf sie fällt.
Highlights: Im Winter trifft die kalte Luft des Tals auf die warme Luft an der Oberfläche und bildet ein Meer aus Wolken, das die gesamte Schlucht ausfüllt, sodass die Gipfel wie schwebende Inseln wirken. Die Farben ändern sich drastisch: von intensivem Orange bei Sonnenaufgang bis zu einem graublauen Ton am späten Nachmittag, ein Spektakel, das zu jeder Stunde anders aussieht.
Insidertipps
- Bring a jacket even in summer: the wind at the top of the cliff is strong and the wind chill factor drops drastically.
- Echo Point lookout is free and offers the classic view, but Lady Darley lookout is less crowded and equally beautiful.
- Avoid weekends and holidays between 11am and 2pm, when the tour buses arrive in large numbers.
- Bring binoculars to spot crimson rosellas and other native birds flying among the rock formations.
