Schnelle Fakten: Der Aufstieg überwindet einen Höhenunterschied von etwa 800 Metern, und der Weg führt durch drei verschiedene Vegetationszonen bis zum Gipfel auf 1.050 Metern. Bei klarem Wetter sieht man von hier die Laguna Toro, die Bucht Última Esperanza und bis zu 150 Kilometer Gletscher in der Ferne.
Highlights: Die Gipfelbuchen hier sind von den Westwinden bis zu 45 Grad gebogen, und eine alte steinerne Vermessungspyramide versteckt sich mitten unter ihnen auf dem höchsten Punkt. In völliger Stille, die nur von der Luft und dem Läuten der Schafsglocken von unten unterbrochen wird, erfasst der Blick die gesamte Kette der Torres del Paine aus 1.050 Metern Höhe.
Insidertipps
- Wear trekking shoes with good grip, because the forested part of the trail is loose and very steep 30 minutes below the summit.
- Ten minutes before the summit, look for a stone platform with a panorama of Laguna Toro, the ideal secluded photo spot.
- Set out by 9 a.m., because on the trail you encounter the fewest people and the light is best for photos.
- Avoid the hike after a rainy night, because the muddy stretches become slippery and make the ascent tricky.
