Schnelle Fakten: Rund 15 Steinkonstruktionen liegen über eine felsige Anhöhe verstreut, eine Festung, die vom Atacameño-Volk im Mittelalter errichtet wurde. Eine blutige Schlacht im Jahr 1540 zwang die Verteidiger, die Anhöhe zu verlassen, und die Reste der Mauer stehen noch heute.
Highlights: Eine einzige schmale Öffnung in der Mauer diente als Tor, eine Verteidigung so effektiv, dass wenige eine ganze Armee draußen halten konnten. Oben auf dem Kamm, über 100 Höhenmeter über dem Fluss, hast du das ganze Tal und den 5.916 Meter hohen Vulkan Licancabur im selben Blick.

- Bring at least one liter of water and sturdy shoes, the last stretch is steep and rocky.
- Come for sunset for golden light over the valley, but allow time to get back down before darkness falls.
- Take the opportunity to photograph the volcano from the upper terraces, where you get the whole mountain range in the frame.
