Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut
Beste Besuchszeit
Arrive at opening or in the final hour before closing, when low sun turns the limestone amber and tour crowds thin. Summer middays scorch the open ramps, so early morning is the easiest plan.
Budgettipps
Foreign adult entry costs roughly 180 EGP, and a multi-day Luxor Pass bundles it with dozens of other monuments. Bring small, exact cash and skip the paid add-on touts at the parking lot.

Schnelle Fakten: Only a handful of women ever ruled the ancient Nile kingdom as full pharaoh, and this queen reigned for 22 triumphant years. Her monument stacks three colonnaded terraces against a cliff nearly 300 meters tall that looms over the desert floor.
Highlights: Her chief steward Senenmut secretly carved a small portrait of himself into a pillar inside a doorway, so he could watch over his queen for eternity. Faded traces of blue and red paint on the reliefs hint that the whole complex once blazed with vivid color.
Insidertipps
- Queue before the gates open and walk straight to the top terrace before tour groups arrive.
- A broad-brimmed hat and two full water bottles are non-negotiable, the ramps offer zero shade by late morning.
- Stand at the second terrace railing on the south end for the classic symmetric facade shot with the cliff behind.
- Ask a site guard to point out the concealed likeness, it is tiny and easy to walk right past.
