Schnelle Fakten: Auf dem oberen Rundgang knarzt der Stein unter den Schuhen, während ein weites Panorama die geometrischen Strahlen der zwölf Avenues offenbart. Mehr als 300 Stufen führen hinauf, und unter dem Bogen flackert ein ewiges Feuer als stille Erinnerung an gefallene Soldaten.
Highlights: Wer die 284 Stufen hinaufsteigt, steht oben über einem sternförmigen Geflecht von 12 Alleen, die wie Speichen in alle Himmelsrichtungen strahlen; der Blick auf die kupfergrünen Dächer und die winzigen Autos wirkt wie eine kleine, rasende Modellbahn. Seit 1923 brennt unter dem Monument eine ewige Flamme für den unbekannten Soldaten, die jeden Abend von Veteranenverbänden neu entfacht wird, wobei der warme Kerzenrauch und das leise Klirren von Orden besonders nahbar wirken.
