Schnelle Fakten: Der ehemalige Bahnhofssaal wirkt wie eine lichtdurchflutete Bühne, riesige Uhren und hohe Glasfenster verleihen den Werken eine fast theatralische Präsenz. Mehr als 3.000 Arbeiten aus den Jahren 1850 bis 1914 zeigen die Entwicklung vom Realismus über den Impressionismus bis zum Jugendstil, darunter ikonische Gemälde von Monet, Van Gogh und Degas.
Highlights: Wenn du zur vollen Stunde hinter die riesige, rund sechs Meter breite Bahnhofsuhr steigst, fällt warmes, honigfarbenes Licht auf die Gemälde und zeichnet fotografische Silhouetten, während durch das Uhrglas das Stadtpanorama weich verschwimmt. Ein kleines, wenig bekanntes Detail: der Bau wurde für die Weltausstellung 1900 fertiggestellt und erst 1986 zum Museum umgebaut, deswegen wandern Besucher heute über originale Schalterhallen und gusseiserne Säulen, und manchmal hört man noch den dumpfen Hall eines historischen Bahnhofsgongs zwischen den Werken von Monet und Van Gogh.
