Schnelle Fakten: Michelangelo schuf diese beeindruckende Figur als Mittelpunkt für das Grabmal von Papst Julius II., ein Projekt, an dem er vier Jahrzehnte arbeitete, obwohl es nie vollständig fertiggestellt wurde. Der berühmt gehörnte Kopf der Statue geht auf eine Fehlübersetzung der Bibel zurück, bei der das hebräische Wort für "Lichtstrahlen" in der lateinischen Vulgata als "Hörner" wiedergegeben wurde.
Highlights: Die wahre Magie entfaltet sich, wenn man nahe genug herantritt, um die Details im Bart, die hervortretenden Adern in den Armen und den intensiven Blick zu sehen, den der Legende nach Michelangelo selbst mit seinem Meißel erschlug und dabei "Sprich!" rief. Die Skulptur zeigt Moses in der Bewegung, wie er mit verknoteten Fingern seinen Bart umklammert und genau in dem Moment erstarrt ist, in dem er aufstehen will, was der gesamten Figur eine elektrische Spannung verleiht, die man quer durch den Raum spüren kann.
