Schnelle Fakten: Dieser Wasserfall, der durch die dichten Wälder des Distrikts Ratnapura fließt, fällt aus 30 Metern Höhe und hat genau die Form eines Bodhi-Baumblattes. Der in drei Stufen fallende Wasser des Wasserfalls mündet in den Kuruvita-Fluss, der später ein Teil des Kalu-Flusses wird.
Highlights: Wenn in der Regenzeit die Wasserführung ihren Höhepunkt erreicht, ist das Donnern des Wasserfalls einen Kilometer weit deutlich zu hören und das Gischt erzeugt ringsum ein regenbogenartiges Schauspiel. Die Einheimischen glauben, dass ein Bad unter diesem Wasserfall Hautkrankheiten heilt, weshalb jedes Jahr Tausende von Pilgern hierher kommen.
Insidertipps
- Wear shoes with good grip due to the narrow valley and slippery path; going in slippers or sandals can be dangerous.
- There is a small platform on the left side of the waterfall which offers the best photo angle of the entire waterfall; reach there before 8 am on weekends.
- Do not swim directly under the waterfall, the water pressure can be very strong; instead bathe in the natural pool formed on the side.
- There are no food shops nearby, so be sure to carry a water bottle and some light snacks with you.
