Schnelle Fakten: Der Bosten-See ist der größte Binnensüßwassersee Chinas mit einer Fläche von 1228 Quadratkilometern. Jedes Jahr halten sich hier über 200 Zugvogelarten auf, darunter die seltene Reliktmöwe und der Schwarzstorch.
Highlights: Im Winter ist die Seeoberfläche bis zu einem Meter dick gefroren. Die Einheimischen schlagen Löcher ins Eis zum Fischen, und man kann das seltsame Schauspiel von Kamelen beobachten, die Schlitten über das Eis ziehen. Im Sommer verbirgt sich im Schilfgürtel am Westufer ein kilometerlanger Wassersteg. Geht man darauf, hat man klares Seewasser zu Füßen, das ringsum hohe Schilf überragt einem, als ginge man durch ein grünes Labyrinth.
Insidertipps
- The best photo spot is at the Dahekou viewing platform. The light is softest at 4-5 PM, with the sparkling lake surface set against the distant Tianshan snow peaks.
- Be sure to take a boat deep into the reed marshes. On the islet in the middle of the lake, you can feed flocks of seagulls. The scenery here is completely different from what you see on the shore.
- There are many mosquitoes in summer, so bring mosquito repellent and wear long pants and long sleeves. If you come in winter for ice fishing, wear a thick down jacket and slip-resistant shoes.
- The restaurants inside the scenic area are overpriced and the food is only so-so. It is recommended to bring your own food or have breakfast in downtown Korla before setting out.
