Schnelle Fakten: Dieser Ort liegt etwa 70 Kilometer südwestlich von Nairobi und umfasst eine der ältesten mittelsteinzeitlichen Fundstätten Ostafrikas mit Funden von etwa 200.000 Jahren. Die frühesten systematischen Ausgrabungen hier wurden von Mary Leakey geleitet, die zusammen mit ihrem Team tausende Steinwerkzeuge und Fragmente ausgestorbener Tiere freilegte.
Highlights: Unter einem überhängenden Felsen im Tal liegen tausende Faustkeile und Steinsplitter noch genau so, wie sie vor tausenden Jahren zurückgelassen wurden, eine seltene Momentaufnahme eines alten Arbeitsplatzes. Wissenschaftler zählten hier etwa 38.000 Steinwerkzeuge auf einer relativ kleinen Fläche, sodass man fast das zischende Geräusch des Schleifens hören kann, während man zwischen den Scherben geht.

- Ask the ranger about the remote viewpoints above the valley, which offer the best views of the sandstone formations.

- Come early on weekdays, then you will have the grounds almost to yourself and can give the guide more time for detailed explanations.
