Schnelle Fakten: Das massive Palmenholz- und Eisentor der Festung trägt noch immer die Spur einer Kanonenkugel, die während der Schlacht von 1902 abgefeuert wurde, die zur Rückeroberung von Riad führte. Ihre Wachtürme erreichen eine Höhe von 18 Metern und wurden einst von Wachen genutzt, um die umliegenden Palmenhaine und die Wüstenlandschaft zu überblicken.
Highlights: Man kann noch immer die Delle einer Kanonenkugel im hölzernen Haupttor der Festung sehen, eine Narbe des legendären Nachtangriffs von 1902, als nur 40 Männer die Festung stürmten. Die aus Lehmziegeln errichteten Mauern, die aus lokalem Ton und Stroh bestehen, halten das Innere selbst an Riads brutalen 45-Grad-Sommernachmittagen überraschend kühl.
