Best time to visit
The best time is in the morning, because then the light in the halls is most natural and there are fewer people. Spring and autumn months are the most pleasant, as the summer heat makes the city excursion more exhausting.
Budget tips
The ticket price is affordable, and locals and students often get discounts. It is also worth asking about a combined ticket that covers other museums in the central Algiers area.

About
Quick facts: This collection is Algeria's oldest art museum and is located in the El Madania district, with a view over the Mediterranean and the city. The collection includes works by both Algerian and European masters dating from the 17th century onward.
Highlights: At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a large mosaic wall assembled from thousands of colorful ceramic tiles. From the building's terrace, one of the best panoramic views over the entire city of Algiers opens up, including the towering Jardin d'Essai botanical garden.
Insider tips
- Bring a light jacket, as the marble floors keep the halls cool all year round
- The terrace offers the best photos of the city view just in the hour before sunset
- Save Sunday afternoon, because that is when there are the fewest local visitors
- Check the temporary exhibitions before you go, because they feature contemporary Algerian art that is not in the permanent collection
