Quick facts: Standing 65 meters tall, this is the smallest of the three great pyramids, yet the only one still wearing a casing of red granite at its base. Steep sides and chunky surviving cladding make it look rougher and older than its smoother neighbors, and you can walk right up and touch the bare stone.
Highlights: A band of weathered pink granite still hugs the lowest 16 courses, marking the line where ancient workers switched from desert limestone to stone hauled 950 kilometers upriver from Aswan. Pressing your palm against those blocks, each weighing several tons, you can trace chisel marks left by quarry crews and feel stone that has outlasted more than four thousand years of weather.
