Visit early in the morning (before 10:00 AM) to avoid the crowds and the heat, or in the evening when the illuminated gates and restaurants create a magical atmosphere. Spring and autumn offer ideal temperatures for walking.
Budget tips
Entry to the area is free, but many art galleries and the small museum have modest fees (10-20 shekels). Tourists staying in Tel Aviv receive the city card (municipality card) which offers discounts at some attractions.

About
Quick facts: Over 4,000 years of continuous habitation make this harbor one of the oldest in the world, where the port itself served many empires. Today 80% of the area has been rebuilt since 1960, but the stone streets and hidden courtyards have preserved the oriental spirit.
Highlights: In the evening hours, the 12 iron gates of the hidden stairways are illuminated with different colors, creating a visual spectacle that no guidebook mentions. My advice: climb to the top of St. Peter's Church around sunset, where you hear the church bells mingling with the muezzin's call from the neighboring mosque, a symphony unique in the world.
Insider tips
- Comfortable shoes are essential, the stone streets are slippery and uneven
- The best photo is taken from the steps of St. Peter's Church in the evening, not from the lower port
- Avoid the touristy cafes right at the port; walk 100 meters inland and you will find local cafes with half the prices
- The Friday morning antique market has the best prices, but always offer half of the first price quoted
