About
Quick facts: This boulevard stretches almost 7 kilometers and has around 600 ficus trees that create a natural canopy over the sidewalks. It is the place where the Declaration of Independence of Israel was signed in 1948, in the house of the first mayor.
Highlights: At number 16 on the boulevard stands Independence House, where David Ben-Gurion declared the independence of the state before a small crowd of people, no more than 25 attendees. You can still see the bullet marks from the 1948 war on the facades of historic buildings, a detail that many visitors pass by without noticing.
Insider tips
- Rent a bike from the Tel-O-Fun city station and ride along the entire boulevard, stopping at the cafés that catch your eye
- The most beautiful photo is taken from the corner of Allenby Street, where the line of trees and the Bauhaus buildings create a perfect perspective
- Avoid peak hours around midday when the sun is strongest and shade is missing in some areas
- Look for the small restaurants on the side streets, not directly on the boulevard, where prices are lower and the food is more authentic
