About

Quick facts: Over 200,000 people gathered here in November 1995 to honor the assassinated prime minister, one of the largest gatherings in Israel's history. The square is located next to Tel Aviv City Hall and is one of the largest public spaces in the city, with a surface area of about 8,000 square meters.

Highlights: At the southeastern corner of the square stands a small monument of black stone, erected by artist Yael Brotman, where people still leave flowers and candles today, three decades after the event. In the evening, the lighting of the city hall building reflects across the square, creating an atmosphere that invites you to stop and reflect.

Insider tips

  • Visit the small memorial monument in the southeastern corner early in the morning, when it is empty and much more peaceful.
  • Bring your camera in the evening; the reflections of the city hall lights on the wide square make for spectacular photos.
  • Combine the visit with a walk towards Ibn Gabirol Street nearby for cafes and local shops.
  • Avoid the midday hours in summer, when the Israeli sun makes the square lifeless and hot.
