Diani Beach
Best time to visit
The brightest period is between December and March and between July and September; during these months the sky is clear and the sea is at its calmest. In the morning hours when low tide occurs, the reefs are ready for exploration, while the midday sun brightens the underwater colors.
Budget tips
Entrance to the beach is completely free, no ticket is required for daily passage. Instead of renting sunbeds and umbrellas, settle on the sand with your towel; you can rent boat tours at half the price by negotiating with local fishermen on the shore rather than through agencies.

About
Quick facts: The tide's shift of up to 4 meters transforms the 17-kilometer beach into a completely different scene twice a day. The receding water reveals coral reefs you can reach on foot and brings tropical fish right up to your ankles.
Highlights: More than 400 black-and-white colobus monkeys live in the forest just behind the beach; at dawn you can watch the families passing through the treetops up close. Green sea turtles grazing in the shallow waters of the coral reef are visible so clearly from 20 meters offshore that you can count the spots on their shells.
Insider tips
- Wear water shoes while walking among the corals, sharp limestone can cut the sole of your foot 10 cm long in a moment of carelessness.
- For sunset shots, choose the palm line at the northern tip; since the white sand reflects the light, no unfiltered shot will fade.
- Between 12:00 and 15:00 the crowd retreats for lunch, use this gap for a snorkeling reef tour in the lagoon.
- Smile at those who approach and offer services and politely continue on your way; you can explore the entire beach on your own without paying anything.
