Maasai Mara National Reserve
Best time to visit
The dry season between June and October noticeably increases your chances of spotting wildlife as the bush thins out and water sources shrink. Early morning hours are the safest and busiest time to watch the migration river crossings.
Budget tips
The daily entry fee for foreign visitors is around 80 dollars, and a single ticket valid for 24 hours is enough for most guests. Buying tickets online in advance lets you skip the queue, and booking accommodation and safaris as a package significantly reduces the total cost.

About
Quick facts: Every year around 1.5 million gazelles and 200 thousand zebras pour into these savannas in the final stage of the great migration that lasts months. More than 95 mammal and over 470 bird species are the permanent residents of these lush green meadows.
Highlights: In late July and August, as the migrating herds cross the river where crocodiles wait, thousands of hooved animals plunge into the water within seconds. Seen from the sky, these herds advance like a giant black-and-white carpet covering the savanna, laying the groundwork for extraordinary predator activity throughout the year.
Insider tips
- Safaris that start at dawn catch the most productive hours for wildlife viewing, because predators are most active at sunrise.
- The Musiara area in the western part of the public reserve has far fewer vehicles than the neighboring private concessions.
- Prefer neutral clothing in khaki and coffee tones, as bright colors and strong scents can startle wildlife.
- During the migration, the acacia-topped hills south of the river are golden spots for cheetah and leopard sightings.
